Golden Gurus

Gold Coast city is home to more than 43,000 small businesses across a broad number of industries according to the Gold Coast City Council. Dunn & Bradstreet states in their 2011 report that because of cash flow constraints, Small Businesses are finding it more difficult to survive. As a contribution to furthering the productivity of Small Business & more importantly to enhance the confidence & skills of the Small Business operator, Volunteering Gold Coast is fostering a mentoring program for small business operators. This Program is called the Golden Guru Program.

What is the Golden Guru Program?

The Golden Guru Program is a voluntary mentoring role that involves the transfer of skills and experience from a Mature Age Person over the age of 50 to a Small business Host Organisation. It does not involve payment of a wage to the Golden Guru and therefore the Golden Guru would not carry out tasks that would normally be done by a paid employee. A Small business would be a business from any sector with less than 20 employees that has been assessed by a Volunteering Gold Coast as suitable for the program.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a developmental partnership through which one person shares knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the personal and professional growth of someone else. We all have a need for insight that is outside of our normal life and educational experience. The power of mentoring is that it creates a one-of-a-kind opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement and problem-solving. A mentor facilitates personal and professional growth in an individual by sharing the knowledge and insights that have been learned through years of experience.

Can my Small Business host a Golden Guru?

If you are a small business operator with less than 20 employees that feels that you may benefit from this program you would be welcome to contact us to register your interest to host a Golden Guru. We would then arrange for you to attend an assessment interview.

Can I be a Golden Guru?

To be a Golden Guru you would be a skilled Mature Age Person no longer in the workforce on a full time basis with business skills, qualifications & experience. You would be assessed by Volunteering Gold Coast as being suitable for the program. The Golden Guru would then be appropriately connected in a voluntary capacity with a Small Business Host Organisation to perform the mentoring role.
