FAQs
1. Are volunteers covered for insurance?
Volunteering Gold Coast ensures that member organisations have adequate insurances before referring volunteers. All volunteers should be covered by their organisation’s insurance. Check with your organisation to find out what the process is.
2. Are volunteers reimbursed for expenses?
Some, but not all, organisations do reimburse volunteers for expenses including petrol costs for using their own vehicles as well as phone call costs which the volunteer could have incurred on behalf of the organization. However, this all depends on the organization and its current financial circumstances. So before volunteering its important to find out whether or not the organisation covers these costs.
3. Why are police checks and blue cards important?
Checks are conducted for some volunteering positions when working with the elderly, people with disabilities, or children. Police checks and the blue card for working with children are needed to ensure that the person volunteering has been certified or given clearance to work with these demographics. 4. Do I need specific skills to be a volunteer?
The types of volunteering roles available are very diverse so the skills needed vary from each volunteering role. Volunteering Gold Coast will match your skills and interests with a volunteering role most suited to you where you can utilise current skills and develop new skills.
We recommend that before viewing the Volunteering Job List that you identify your skill sets and also the skills sets you wish to develop. This will help both you and the Volunteering Gold Coast interviewer to establish the most suitable role for you!

Volunteering Australia specifies that there is no globally determined age limit to volunteering, however there are limitations in certain volunteer roles or specified in certain policies which may exclude people of certain ages.
